Rutgers EMBA: Pharmaceutical Powerhouse

The Rutgers EMBA is the program of choice for senior-level executives in the tri-state pharmaceutical sector. A Rutgers EMBA listing of these current and former students reads like a Who's Who in pharma.

Stacy Chick, of Sanofi-Aventis, informs us that when her company agreed to support her pursuit of an MBA, the Rutgers EMBA program came highly recommended by her supervisor, alumna Bob Spurr (EMBA 1999).  She writes, "After meeting with the EMBA director, Prof. Farrokh Langdana, sitting in on a few classes, and seeing the quality of the instruction as well as the interactions among students and professors, I was eager to begin my graduate studies at Rutgers.  In my role as Director of National Account Management for Aventis Pharmaceuticals, my position required coast-to-coast travel and the REMBA course schedule suited my need for weekend classes."

With a background in sales and marketing, Stacy wanted to get the maximum return on investment for her MBA experience, so she decided to major in finance. Looking back Stacy tells us, "My project group and the Rutgers EMBA professors were always available to answer questions and discuss issues. I was able to apply many of the financial management concepts discussed in class to my professional responsibilities, making better investment and contracting decisions as a result of what I'd learned in class."

In particular, Stacy excelled in the International Trade and Global Macroeconomics course. Discussions pertaining to intellectual property violation, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, and global product life-cycles of new drugs versus generics were of strong personal interest to her.

Postscript:

After graduating from the Rutgers EMBA program, Stacy was appointed Head of Regional Account Management for sanofi-aventis in Bridgewater, New Jersey, supervising a team of 60 Regional Account Managers and Directors.  This promotion was rapidly followed with another one to Senior Director, Channel Marketing, Cardiovascular Marketing. At that time she wrote, "This is 'huge' for me -- joining a brand marketing team was a critical step on my career path."
