Nonprofit Capacity Building for Executives, Board Members and Emerging Leaders

Since 2007, the The Prudential Foundation and Victoria Foundation have sponsored an annual convening of CEOs, board trustees and emerging leaders in through a variety of platforms (all-day conferences, speaker series, webinars, etc.) that focus on how to strengthen organizational core capacities and develop synergy between the CEO and the board.

The Institute for Ethical Leadership kicks off the 2016 Capacity Building Series with an introductory workshop and peer-to-peer roundtable discussion for Non-profit Leaders of all levels and Board Members. Join Francine Parham, leadership and professional development strategist, to discover and practice the steps you need to create the right professional network for career and organization success. By the end of the workshop you will be on your way to creating a professional network that works for you (and your organization).

Leadership, Mindfulness, and Yoga
with Janine White 
This two-part series lead by Janine White focuses on embodied leadership. Both weeks will guide you through elements of  yoga practice and philosophy relating to leadership qualities, encouraging both a cognitive and physical engagement with these concepts. Movement, breathing, and meditation exercises will be incorporated, as well as discussion about how leadership takes shape in our lives. Join us at the end of each workshop for finger foods and refreshments.

No prior yoga experience is necessary. Modifications will be offered for participants with various levels of flexibility. Participants can attend either Leadership, Mindfulness, and Yoga workshop in the Capacity Building Series for an introduction to the subject, or both workshops for a deeper dive.

    The first workshop will allow for discussion and physical exploration of how our inner experience and personal characteristics support leadership. We work on getting to know ourselves from the inside out, as the essential basis for being able to engage as leaders in the world around us.

    The second workshop will focus on how our sense of self guides relationships and how we serve our communities. Through partner and group exercises, we will examine how leadership dynamics play out among the group, helping to build awareness of the leadership qualities that you already posses.

Michael Brandwein comes to Newark, NJ for the 2016 Capacity Building Series “People’s Choice Day.” You voted for the workshops you are most interested in attending and the topics with the top votes will be presented June 2nd! The morning and afternoon sessions will each consist of two dynamic, entertaining, engaging and informative 1 ½ hour workshops lead by Michael Brandwein on personal development, management, communications, and leadership. The Institute for Ethical Leadership concludes the 2016 Capacity Building Series with a workshop for Non-profit Leaders of all levels and Board Members. Francine Parham, author, leadership and professional development strategist, returns to share to share strategies, approaches as well as introduce tools that you can use for collaborating with key partners and stakeholders in your professional network to benefit you (and your organization). Attendance in the first workshop of the 2016 Capacity Building Series, “Making Your Network Work for You (And Your Non-Profit),” is not required, however participants who attend both workshops will see continuity between the topics. 

The first 30 participants who register (and attend), will receive a free copy of Francine's new book, “The Ultimate Career Pocket Guide” (April 2016).

Education and Support for Senior Nonprofit Executives

The Prudential Foundation Nonprofit Executive Fellows Program

Sponsored by The Prudential Foundation, this is a transformative curriculum-based training and leadership development program expressly designed to help nonprofit senior executives achieve their full leadership potential. Over a two-year period, a cohort group, comprised of fifteen nonprofit leaders, meets once a month from September through June to take part in this unique and ground-breaking comprehensive approach to developing both personal and professional leadership skills and competencies. Each monthly five-hour session includes formal instruction provided by practitioners and field experts, as well as peer-to-peer discussions led by the group facilitator. In addition to the group work, each participant receives ongoing one-on-one coaching and emotional intelligence training. This program offers executives the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills while broadening their perspective on how to effect greater change for the sector. Upon completing the program, participants become members of the Fellows Alumni Network, a group of peers that meets several times annually. Through the network, program alumni continue to receive the long-term benefits of peer support as they work together on honing their skills and learning new approaches to solving issues.

Nonprofit Executive and Emerging Leaders Certificate Program

  • Executive Track: is designed to give 18-20 nonprofit executives the tools to advance their knowledge and skills, increase their leadership capacity, gain credentials for enhancing their future, and reap the benefits of networking with experts and colleagues in the field. During a three-day intensive program, a distinguished group of presenters, comprised of Rutgers faculty members and nationally recognized practitioners, conduct in-depth presentations and engage in challenging and strategic discussions on a wide range of topics.  There is also a follow up day six months later to reinforce learning.

Leaders Common Ground Program

This program brings together 10-12 nonprofit executives for peer group sessions that foster discussion of issues affecting leadership of their organizations.  Sessions, which are held once a month September to June, are led by a facilitator whose role is to guide the session and lend structure to the process, while creating a supportive and safe environment where participants can discuss, in strict confidence, mutual challenges in order to secure practical solutions. Education and Support for Nonprofit Emerging Leaders

Victoria Foundation Emerging Leaders Program

Victoria Foundation Nonprofit Emerging Leaders Fellows Program is an innovative and transformative approach to leadership training, acutely focused on increasing the number of highly effective nonprofit leaders who have the practical knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to lead their organizations and better serve their communities. The program combines time-tested elements and benefits of a structured curriculum, peer mentoring, one-on-one coaching, Emotional Intelligence assessment and training, and Life & Career Planning®, a proprietary tool that focuses on personal and professional growth through exploring one’s own values. The Program runs September through August, meeting once a month from 9am to 4pm.

Participants learn the nuts and bolts of what is entailed in effectively leading a nonprofit organization.  Again, there is also a follow up day six months later to reinforce learning.
