Finance MBA Concentration

The Finance MBA Concentration at Rutgers Business School provides broad professional competence and skills to prepare students for careers in executive positions at banks, financial institutions and other firms.  Close to the many financial institutions in New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., an MBA in finance from Rutgers provides excellent job opportunities with the best corporations in the northeast.

On the Newark, New Jersey campus, there is a state-of-the-art financial analysis center, enabling MBA students to do security analysis, learn portfolio management, and understand the workings of the dealer markets for many financial securities.

In addition to the Full-Time or Flex core MBA curriculum requirements, Full-Time and Flex MBA candidates following the new curriculum and seeking a finance concentration must take five intensive courses of their choice at either the Newark or New Brunswick, New Jersey campuses (four courses for Flex MBA candidates following the old Flex curriculum).

The core courses are the building blocks upon which the rest of the MBA program stands. Our objective is to have students well prepared for their advanced courses and encourage and support high performance of our students. Therefore, the Department of Finance and Economics is recommending faculty teaching the core courses (Managerial Economics, Aggregate Economics and Financial Management) to evaluate their students by using examinations and other assignments that are highly demanding so that they reveal the differential performance of students. To specially reward the good student, the Department of Finance and Economics has established the following grading policy for MBA core courses:  The total of A's and B's awarded is not to exceed 75% of the total number of students taking the class. The A's may be awarded to no more than 25% of the class.

Curriculum and Course Descriptions

The Finance MBA curriculum is the same for both Traditional Full-Time MBA and Flex MBA students (who started in Spring 2009 or later).
