Supply Chain Management students inspired at 2011 APICS Global Conference
Four students in the highly ranked Supply Chain Undergraduate Program at Rutgers Business School were selected to attend the 2011 APICS Global conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they had the opportunity to learn from and network with the industry’s biggest names.
APICS, The Association for Operations Management, is a global organization offering certification programs, training tools and networking opportunities to increase workplace performance in the area of Supply Chain Management. The Northern NJ APICS chapter selected four RBS students to attend the conference based on their outstanding success in a recent Case Competition and a strict resume and application process.

Bella Wess, Jonathan Frances, Carlos Vengas and Sandy Balinas, all undergraduate students studying Supply Chain Management, benefited from the learning and networking opportunities at the event. “I was able to network with many professionals in the supply chain field from a wide variety of industries. Not only did I have a chance to meet new people, but I also had the chance to interview for full time positions at Caterpillar and Lockheed Martin,” said Frances. The conference inspired Sandy Balinas, another student, to take action and create strategic goals for her career and future. “The experiences shared by my mentor, the educational sessions, and the networking opportunities have widened my career goals in Supply Chain Management,” she said.
The students also left the conference with a new perspective on supply chain management. “These lectures gave me a new outlook on many relevant supply chain topics such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, S&OP, and Scorecards,” said Frances. “It’s very different to learn about topics in a classroom setting as opposed to only learning information in a real life application setting,” he said.
The Rutgers Business School’s highly ranked Supply Chain Program gives students a strong foundation for their careers as future managers in the supply chain field. The program was ranked #3 nationwide by Gartner Supply Chain Leaders in 2011.
