Nine students receive Women’s Business Leadership Initiative awards at inaugural awards ceremony

Six seniors and three juniors were recognized by Rutgers Business School’s
Women's Business Leadership Initiative (WBLI) for their academic, community service and entrepreneurship achievements at an awards ceremony in New Brunswick on May 14. Approximately 100 faculty, staff, students, parents, corporate sponsors, and guests attended the inaugural event at the Hyatt Regency.

“WBLI promotes academic excellence, leadership, community service, entrepreneurship and as such we award participants of the program who excel in these areas,” said Nadine Alexandre, Director of WBLI.

Pat David, managing director at Citi, was the keynote speaker for the event. A total of 15 corporate sponsors and the Department of Treasury - IRS office, participated in the event.

Yana Gromashchuk - Winner of the 2009 WBLI Academic Excellence and Leadership Award
Alexandra Rondon - Winner of the 2009 WBLI Community Service Award
Anisha Datwani - Winner of the 2009 WBLI Entrepreneurial Spirit Award
Sophia Ranade - Recipient of the 2009 WBLI Above & Beyond Award *
Lena Kim - Recipient of the 2009 WBLI Above & Beyond Award *
Erika Hennessey - Recipient of the 2009 WBLI Above & Beyond Award *

The Women’s Business Leadership Initiative (WBLI) is an innovative women’s leadership program which began to provide Rutgers Business School students who have demonstrated a record of academic excellence, with structured opportunities to develop their leadership potential via an integrated learning approach to prepare them for the critical transition into the workplace while empowering them to for long-term successful careers.

“WBLI aims to give women business students, real-world, learning experiences so students are prepared when they step out into the corporate world,” said Alexandre. “Our goals are consistent with Rutgers Business School’s goal of providing the learning edge that will make Rutgers graduates stand out.”

Through mentorship, workshops, career exploration and networking events along with leadership coursework, to name a few, WBLI strives to become a, highly sought after, launching pad for women in business. By offering unique specialized programs in a collaborative environment, Rutgers Business School delivers the business, science, and technology credentials demanded by global corporations.
