A message from Dean Cooper about the move to 1 Washington Park
June 16, 2009
Dear RBS Community, I am excited to announce that this summer Rutgers Business School in Newark will be moving to our brand new, state-of-the-art building located at 1 Washington Park. This is an appropriate move for the bustling and expanding business school that we have become and the only business school that delivers business, science, and technology credentials. 1 Washington Park in Newark is located just a few blocks north of our previous location. In July and August, RBS faculty and staff will be moving in to prepare for the arrival of students for the fall 2009 semester. The new location will be supported by shuttle transportation to easily get around the expanded Newark campus. Also, customized public safety initiatives, new food options, and advanced technologies provided for the benefit of the RBS community will help make this move an exciting transition for RBS. 1 Washington Park will not only provide countless resources for RBS students, faculty, centers, and staff, but will also provide the entire Rutgers University and Newark community with a northward extension of the Newark campus. The move will spark pedestrian traffic, increase the use of public transportation, and further develop the Washington Park and Orange Street areas. Students and faculty will derive tremendous benefit from state-of-the-art facilities for study, teaching, and research. Each of the new classrooms is fully outfitted with electronic “smart” classroom technology to provide for significant interactions between students and faculty. Several classrooms will have recording capabilities to record lectures and others will have touch screen podiums. In addition to these “smart” classrooms, there is a distance learning instructional classroom and two instructional technology classrooms with large screens for presentations and conferences. There is also a main non-instructional computer lab for students, six video conferencing rooms, a new VoIP phone system and an 802.11n wireless internet connection – the newest, fastest connection available – throughout the entire building. One of the most unique features of 1 Washington Park will be the RBS trading room located on the ground floor: a specialized computer lab, equipped with 64 computers and two electronic data boards showing real-time stock information.
