Rutgers Business School (RBS) Alumni Dzifa Tamakloe (MBA ’08) and Veronica Amegatse (MBA ’08) started FanAfrik LLC to promote African culture through dance, music, and fashion, less than six months after their May 2008 graduation. FanAfrik is an entertainment company that aims to become a leader in organizing African concerts by bringing together various artists to perform while creating a friendly, fun and culturally reminiscent atmosphere. The company plans to gradually expand to other parts of the United States and Canada.FanAfrik's first show, " Afrika" will be held at the Newark Symphony Hall in the Sarah Vaughn Concert Hall on July 3, 2009. The two RBS alums are excited for both the launch and for the opportunity to show RBS what can be done with the knowledge learned at Rutgers Business School, the only school with a unique multidisciplinary approach to business education.“It will be a great honor for us to showcase to students what can happen when you put your education at Rutgers to work,” said Tamakloe. “The drive to become a self starter evolved from a Team Consulting class Veronica and I enrolled in the fall of 2008.”Africka will be a semi-annual cultural event that will bring to light the different elements of African Culture. These elements will be mainly portrayed through musical performances by renowned artists from Africa, a colorful African fashion show segment, and a host of exciting cultural performances by dancers and performers from South Africa and other African countries. The event will be hosted by Van Vicker, a well-known West African actor and the night will feature special guest performer 9ICE, also known as Abolore Akande, a Nigerian musician who is known for promoting African culture through his music. Tickets are currently on sale at ticketmaster.com and at afrika.eventbrite.com.
