DeMarrais: Unordered goods are yours to keep
NorthJersey.com (Newark, NJ) - May 22, 2011
"What they want to do is get you to feel a little guilty, to do them a favor," said Jamie Sawhill, a professor of marketing at Rutgers Business School in Newark. It's a common technique of marketers, to give you something voluntarily so you will give them something back, Sawhill said. N.J. taking risks to boost pension pool, may double up on 'alternative investments'
The Record (New Jersey) - May 17, 2011
Another risk is that hedge funds and private equity are opaque, noted John Longo, a professor of finance and economics at Rutgers University. Hedge funds offer a wide array of sophisticated trading strategies and often try to profit from market declines. Private equity firms pool investors' funds and invest in a variety of companies. Neither has to disclose what they invest in. "If you don't see full transparency, you don't understand the drivers of the returns of the funds," Longo said. "Therefore, you could be taking risks that you're not aware of."
