Awards & Honors

Ann Buchholtz, professor of management and global business, received the prestigious 2015 Sumner Marcus Award at the Academy of Management's annual meeting in August. The award recognized Buchholtz’s service and scholarship contributions to the field of social issues in management. (Shortly after receiving the award, Professor Buchholtz passed away. Read story.)

Retired faculty member Edwin Hartman received the Lifetime Achievement in Business Ethics Scholarship Award from the Society for Business Ethics, in recognition of his important contribution to the field.

Kevin Lyons, associate professor of professional practice in supply chain, was named an honoree for the New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Awards in the category of PSE&G Environmental Stewardship. Lyons was also selected to receive funding through Rutgers University’s partnership with Benefunder.

Michael Crew, distinguished professor of regulatory economics and director of the Center for Research in Regulated Industries, was recognized for his contributions by the CRRI’s annual Eastern Conference, the Conference on Postal and Delivery Economics and the CRRI annual Western Conference. As a special honor at his last conference as director of the CRRI, the California Public Utilities Commission presented him with a resolution signed by all five commissioners.

 

 

Yao Zhao, associate professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management, won first place in the 2014 INFORMS Case Competition. His research on “Inventory Positioning in Clinical Trial Supply Chains” will be published in Production and Operations Management. Zhao also received the 2014 Emerald Literati Network Award for Excellence.

Tom York, assistant professor of professional practice in supply chain management, has advised several award-winning case competition teams: MBA - Spring, 2015 - Sam Walton, 3rd Place; Undergrad - Spring, 2015 - Rutgers Ten Plus Dual Challenge - 1st Place; Undergrad individual - Spring, 2015 - Rutgers Ten Plus Dual Challenge - Most Professional Presentation; Undergrad - Fall, 2014 - ISM 1st Place (Paul Goldsworthy, assistant professor of professional practice in supply chain management also served as an advisor)

Professor Cheng-Few Lee led the annual conference on Pacific Basin Finance, Economics, Accounting and Management in Vietnam in July. There were 103 papers presented during the conference. In addition to Lee, Executive Vice Dean Yaw Mensah and Professor Bharat Sarath represented Rutgers Business School at the conference.


 

John Cantwell, distinguished professor in management and global business and editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Business Studies, was a keynote speaker at the Conference on Fueling Innovation in the Global Economy at George Washington University in May. He was also invited to be keynote speaker at the Asian Academy of Management Biennial Conference in Hong Kong in June.

Jim Winder, assistant professor of professional practice in finance & economics, won the Thomas H. Mott Jr. Award for Excellence in Teaching. Rutgers Business School undergraduate students in New Brunswick vote to nominate professors for the award.

Farok J. Contractor, distinguished professor in the Department of Management & Global Business, delivered the keynote speech “Internationalization of South Asian Economies: Prospects and Policy Implications,” at the Nepal Academy of Management on March 28 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Dr. Miklos Vasarhelyi, KPMG Distinguished Professor of Accounting Information Systems and Director of Rutgers Accounting Research Center and Continuous Auditing & Reporting Lab, was selected as the recipient of the 2015 NJ ISACA President's Award.  ISACA, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, is an international association focused on IT Governance and currently serves over 100,000 constituents in more than 180 countries.  Each year, the ISACA New Jersey Chapter recognizes a colleague from the ISACA membership base who continuously makes significant contributions to the profession, the Chapter and to the ISACA organization. 

Editor, Fellow, and Director Positions

Hui Xiong, professor in the department of Management Science and Information Systems and Director of the Rutgers Center for Information Assurance, was recently invited to be an associate editor for ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems and IEEE Transactions on Big Data.

Ben Sopranzetti, associate professor of finance and economics, has been elected as director of the Eastern Finance Association.

Jonathan Eckstein, professor in the Department of Management Science and Information Systems, was elected as a fellow for INFORMS.

Ron Shapiro, executive director of the Center for Real Estate, was elected to serve on the community advisory board of Two Rivers Community Bank. The term, which started in January, continues through May 2016. Community Engagement

Weiwei Chen, Lei Lei, and David Dobrzykowski participated in a workflow analysis and process improvement project with Newark Beth Israel’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to better serve the community.

John Impellizzeri, associate professor of professional practice in supply chain management, organized the inaugural Newark high school supply chain certificate program held June 21 to July 1. The public-private-community collaboration effort was sponsored with a $30,000 donation from Schindler Elevator Corp.
