Admission to the Master of Science in Business of Fashion

The MSBF targets academically strong students from both creative and business backgrounds. Please apply directly to Rutgers Business School Graduate Programs. Decisions are made holistically and weigh various factors including academic background, graduate test scores, relevant work experience and interest. The program is small and student centric.

 Application Deadlines

We encourage applicants to apply early as we admit applicants on a rolling basis, starting September 1 and spots are limited.

Spring 2018

 November 1 (International Applicants)
*You should take the GMAT or GRE, TOEFL or IELTS no later than October 15

November 1 (Domestic Applicants)
*You should take the GMAT or GRE no later than October 31st

Note: if spots are still available (this cannot be guaranteed), rolling admissions will continue until December 1. Exams must be completed two weeks before the deadlines for both international and domestic students alike

All requirements listed below must be satisfied. As soon as the online application is completed with all requirements listed below, the Director will select candidates for a personal interview by invitation only.

 

Application Checklist

In addition to the Online Application, applicants must complete the following:

 

1. Application fee (non-refundable) of $70

Checks and money orders should be made payable to Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Do not send cash. This can also be paid online via a credit card.

 
2. Official Transcripts

Applicants must mail in an official transcript for each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.

For Rutgers graduates, please note that even though you are applying to Rutgers as an alumnus, you still need to contact the Registrar's office and request your official transcript be mailed to our office.

 *Applicants holding international transcripts do not need to have their transcripts evaluated unless advised by the Rutgers Business School Admissions Committee.  

 

3. GMAT or GRE Test Results 

 Official GMAT, GRE or LSAT test results, taken within five years from the term of entrance, are required.

  • GMAT code: QK5-XT-08
  • GRE code: 5529

Applicants holding one of the following degrees are exempt from the GMAT/GRE: J.D., Ph.D., M.D., or Pharm.D.

Test waivers are granted in exceptional cases only and are at the discretion of the director, based on a variety of factors such as, in part, relevant work experience (typically at least 10 years in specific positions). Appeals are not possible.

Note: As part of our agreement with the Fashion Institute of Technology, FIT professors eligible for the MSBF as part of their professional development track are automatically waived from the entrance exam requirement.

4. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), IELTS, or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)

You must submit the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic test if your native language is not English.  This is not required of students who have obtained an undergraduate or graduate degree in the U.S.; other English speaking countries (Canada, England, etc...); or have been working in the U.S. for at least three years.

  1. TOEFL Code: B355 - Rutgers Business School requires a minimum score of 90.
  2. IELTS: Please contact IELTS and have your score sent to our office (address listed below).  Rutgers Business School requires a minimum score of 6.5.
  3. PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language proficiency test designed to measure reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, as they are used in an academic setting. Rutgers Business School requires a minimum score of 68. 

 

5. You must provide two letters of recommendation 

Letters of recommendation can either be submitted through the online application or they can be mailed to our office directly by the recommender on company letterhead. 

 

6. Submit your resume 

Your resume can be submitted through the online application.

 

7. Essay 

You are required to write an essay. The topic may vary each academic year and be made available on the online application.
