What All Graduates Should Know

We will serve a complimentary reception for graduates during the robing and check-in session on May 19, 2017, 2:00pm at Rutgers Business School,  1 Washington Park, Newark, NJ, 2nd floor Lounge (MBA Students) and third floor lounge (Specialty Masters Programs).  Upon check-in, students will receive a numbered name card (which will also serve as your NJPAC admission ticket). The name card will be used to announce your name, honors and awards.


Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is there a rehearsal for convocation?

A. There will not be a rehearsal for students. All necessary information will be relayed to you prior to the convocation, when you check in and line up.

Q. How many guests can I invite to the convocation?

A. Graduates who indicated "attending" the convocation are entitled up to four (4) free tickets for their guests. Additional tickets may be available at a later time. Everyone who enters the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) must have a ticket, including infants (babes-in-arms) and children.

Q. What should I wear under my regalia?

A. In general, business casual is highly recommended. Shoes should be comfortable. Women are encouraged to consider wearing low pumps or flats.

Q. What shouldn't I bring?

A. You should not carry purses, cameras, flowers, etc.  Your hands should be free to shake hands with the Dean, receive your ceremonial diploma and take professional photographs.

Q. What time do I need to be on campus? Where should I go?

A. All graduates should plan to arrive on campus no later than 2:00pm for check-in and to receive your name cards. Complimentary refreshments will be available at that time. MBA students will report to room 1WP 220; EMBA and IEMBA students will report to 1WP 228, PA students will report to 1WP 226.  MACCY, MQF, MIT and MSCM students will report to the third floor Lounge during this time.  

Q. What time is line up and the procession?

A. Graduates will line up with their program in alpha numeric order promptly at 3:00pm in 1 Washington Park.  The procession begins at 3:30pm sharp! NJPAC is approximately four (4) blocks from the 1 Washington Park.

Q. Will there be a professional photographer at the convocation?

A. Yes, professional photographers will take individual photos of each graduate. Each graduate will take two (2) shots: standing pose and as they receive their diploma.

Q. What if it rains?

A. In the event of rain, graduates are strongly encouraged to bring and wear their own rain gear. We will proceed from the campus to NJPAC rain or shine.

Q. How should I wear my tassel prior to receiving my diploma?

A. Graduates should wear their tassel to the right side of their cap. Once the degree is conferred upon you, you will move the tassel to the left side of the cap.

Q. How do I receive my ceremonial diploma on stage?

A. The Dean will hand you your ceremonial diploma.  Hold the diploma with your left and shake the Dean’s left hand with your right hand.
