How has your learning been applicable in your current role?

I have successfully applied the skills I learned during the program to my current role by intentionally implementing leadership and communication strategies in my daily interactions at NJ TRANSIT. I’m also delegating more responsibilities, which frees up my time to focus on more urgent matters and where my attention is most needed. Additionally, I am contributing more concepts, ideas, and solutions, which fosters a collaborative atmosphere. I have always aimed to bring the team together, and since completing the program, I’ve done so even more effectively. I promote and sustain a positive team culture by applying my new leadership and communication skills, sharing insights during staff meetings, and streamlining processes. This approach has strengthened the dynamics of our small but mighty team.

What motivated you to pursue this program?

I was nominated for this program by my supervisor, who thought I would be a good fit. I read over the program description, saw what I would gain from it, and my excitement was immediate - I applied the same day. With my drive and desire for personal growth, I was equally motivated by career development and advancement. However, my main motivation was my belief that no matter how seasoned you are in your career and in life, it's never too late to learn - you only need to remain open to the opportunity.

What was your biggest personal or professional gain from taking this program?

My biggest professional ROI was meeting employees whom I previously only knew by name listed on a meeting agenda. Having a face to match with a name has been beneficial. The learner engagement was remarkable because I had an opportunity to connect with peers I hadn’t known before. It felt like a meeting of the minds, and I still speak with many of them regularly since completing the program. Additionally, completing the program gave me a great sense of accomplishment on a more personal level.

What does the term “reinvent” mean to you?

I would say reinvention means evolution, and purposeful change. It’s going on a journey of self-discovery, exploring new things, and getting out of your own way. The term reinvent means not being boxed into a comfort zone. This program helped me reinvent myself. It forced me to be purposeful and intentional about what I want. I’m still navigating my career path and writing and tracking goals I want to achieve, not just for the sake of performance reviews, but for myself. Each step in my career has been a building block, and I’m eager to lean in even further – to lead, to create, and to shape spaces that reflect purpose and progress.

What does the term “lifelong learning” mean to you?

Lifelong learning is always leaving yourself open to learning something new. It’s not about title or tenure; it’s about choosing growth again and again. The moment you believe you know it all is the moment you stop growing, and that mindset can quietly hold you back. There’s always room for knowledge and growth in some areas of your life, and learning will never end if you don't allow it to. It is my hope that I remain curious, open to learning, and constantly evolving in both skill and spirit. I believe as the world changes, so should the people living in it.

In looking back on your program experiences, what stands out to you?

What stood out to me most was how well-structured the program was. The hybrid format, a mix of in-person and online sessions, was convenient, and the facilitators made sure they covered every detail. The faculty made me feel seen and heard. Whether in-person or virtual, the environment allowed for full participation without constraint. There are instances in a classroom setting when you may be reluctant to sit at the front of the class and ask questions, especially when it’s a new topic or you’re unsure. Being treated as a peer nurtured my confidence, and the facilitators’ genuine enthusiasm for sharing made the learning experience personal and empowering.

What advice would you give to fellow professionals or colleagues that might not have considered this type of program?

The Mini-MBA: Team Management Essentials course was a game-changer. Whether you're leading a team, have a desire to lead a team like I do, or stepping into new opportunities, the skills and insights gained will elevate your personal and professional growth — I wholeheartedly recommend it. Many things in life can be taken away from you, but the one thing that can’t be taken away is knowledge — it's yours. You earned it, you put your energy and time into it, and it belongs to you. What you do with it once you acquire it is also up to you. You’ll cross paths with remarkable people whose insights can truly expand your perspective. More than a credential, the Mini-MBA: Team Management Essentials unlocks growth — equipping you to thrive professionally and personally. What was offered during the program proved meaningful to all involved — and I truly believe every participant walked away enriched and inspired. I am grateful for the opportunity.
