Michael Carniol is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting & Information Systems at Rutgers Business School. His research uses game theory and econometric analysis to study how nonprofit organizations shape their financial reporting and resource allocation in response to stakeholder pressure, incentives, and changing accounting standards. His work has appeared in The Accounting Review, Economics Letters, and the New England Journal of Medicine. He teaches financial accounting to undergraduate and graduate students and received the Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2024. Before entering academia, Carniol spent more than a decade as a capital-structure, event-driven, and volatility arbitrage trader. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.B.A. from NYU Stern, and a B.A. from Northwestern University.
