What is the biggest lesson you gained from studying business? Despite all the valuable technical information I learned from my two majors, the biggest lesson I gained from studying business is how important communication is in the business world. Networking is a crucial aspect of business that creates a new avenue to find people with unique ideologies and experiences. Effectively relaying my thought process to a group of acquaintances is just as instrumental. I am glad that I could work on both aspects through my four years here at Rutgers. Specifically, the plethora of career fairs and events hosted by the university and school organizations assisted me in finding those networking opportunities. At the same time, the vast number of group projects played a significant role in developing my public speaking skills.

What has surprised you most about majoring in business? I was impressed at the vast amount of quantitative analysis used in businesses. I initially assumed that companies were slowly integrating data analytics and data science and that most current quantitative work was simple. However, there are already many thoroughly flushed out programs and analytical processes used daily by most organizations. For instance, the ability to forecast a stock price using stochastic processes and regression modeling is an essential part of any finance-oriented group. As machine learning and automation improve, I cannot wait to see what we as analysts can readily predict and the value that those algorithms can bring to the business world.

Looking back over your experience, what is the one thing you’d do differently in business school and why? As a commuter student, I only had time to commit to a few extracurriculars since organizations met relatively late at night. I would have devoted more time and effort to participate in more business-oriented extracurricular groups if I could go back. I would have learned more about various industries and technical skills via workshops. In addition, I would have also met more people to connect with and improve my social skills.

Which academic, extracurricular or personal achievement are you most proud of? I am most proud of my ability to overcome the fall semester of my sophomore year. Combining a six-course academic workload with extracurricular and familial responsibilities, I found myself constantly not having enough time to do everything. Despite the number of times I wanted to give up, I knew I had to keep pushing and find a solution. I eventually adapted a temporary plan to undergo a polyphasic sleep schedule. This sleep schedule helped me generate enough time to do all my commitments. I may have been exhausted by the end of the semester (and I definitely would not do such a sleep schedule again!), but I am proud of my ambitiousness and ability to do whatever it takes to reach my goal.

Which classmate do you most admire? Hemanth Bhupatiraju is a peer who stands out among many other great students. He is the ideal student with whom I am very fortunate to have become good friends. I admire Hemanth’s diligence and determination to accomplish his goals regardless of the situation. This dedication inspired me to also push myself and improve my work ethic. I also admire Hemanth’s ability to work as a team player and leader. He is always willing to reach out and ensure every group member’s success.

Who would you most want to thank for your success? I want to credit my mother for all the success I have had. Her sacrifice to take care of the family as I focused on my studies allowed me to be where I am today. More importantly, my mother’s constant, unwavering support for me even in the toughest of times lifted my mental and emotional health, and her determination to get anything done regardless of the situation motivated me to push myself just as hard. The accolades and my graduation plaque may not contain her name on them, but my mother and the behind-the-scenes work she did deserve just as much praise.

What are the top two items on your professional bucket list? Master a programming language and become a well-known expert in the analytics industry.

What are your hobbies? I am an avid fan of video games, ranging from various games such as Valorant, Overwatch, Master Duel, Settlers of Catan, and Wild Rift. I am also heavily invested in basketball, which I love to watch and play casually and analyze the sport from an analytical perspective. Going on nature walks and spending quality time with family and friends are other hobbies I thoroughly enjoy.

What made Dustin such an invaluable addition to the Class of 2022?

“In the time I have known Dustin, I have found him to be a bright, motivated, and caring individual who works well in a team and demonstrates leadership abilities. Dustin takes advantage of the opportunities that are presented to him and not only serves as a participant, but as a leader.

Involved in activities that help enhance his career potential, Dustin keeps himself busy.  He is active in several campus programs where he empowers his peers through tutoring, impacts his community with recycling efforts and raises awareness for educational programs for children.

Dustin works as a Rutgers Business School Ambassador where he is responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing a busy reception area and efficiently lead building tours. He took the lead in conducting student employee interviews, he maintains discretion when dealing with sensitive information and treats everyone with respect.

Dustin is an example of a student who will not only utilize the opportunities presented to him but be aware of the needs of others and be ready and willing to give back. His sense of professionalism and keen intelligence sets him apart from the other students.”
