New alliance will strengthen classwork, professional development for auditing students

Accounting students and professors at Rutgers Business School will gain more connections to professionals and benefit from classroom curriculum influenced by industry as a result of a new partnership through the Institute of Internal Auditors Academic Alliance Program.

Rutgers Business School’s Department of Accounting and Information Systems is one of the newest collegiate partners to be recognized by the institute.

Why it’s Important:

  • Rutgers Business School gets access to grants to enhance auditing curriculum and learning resources for accounting and auditing classes at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Professional networking and career development opportunities.
  • Free student Institute for Internal Auditors memberships.

The new partnership will allow Rutgers Business School to foster deeper collaborations the North Jersey and Central New Jersey chapters of the Institute of Internal Auditors, with the goals of enhancing auditing curriculum and strengthening the ability of faculty and students to connect with the professional community.

Rutgers Business School is recognized as an academic affiliate, which provides it with access to grant opportunities to support curriculum development and student learning resources, and to enhance professional pathway initiatives, including free student IIA memberships, networking support and applied case-based instruction.

“As a proud Rutgers alumna and now faculty member, this partnership is especially meaningful to me because it reflects a full-circle moment in my academic and professional journey,” said Danesha Chisholm, an adjunct professor who championed Rutgers Business School’s application. Chisholm will also serve as the first academic alliance coordinator under the partnership.

“It is incredibly rewarding to now help create pathways for our students to grow into future leaders in internal audit, risk, governance and compliance,” Chisholm said. “It is also about legacy, mentorship and opening doors for the next generation.”
