Make a Will, Make an Impact on Rutgers

August is Make-a-Will Month—a perfect time to protect your loved ones, plan for the future, and create a lasting impact. Rutgers University Foundation partnered with FreeWill to make no-cost estate, financial planning, and donation tools available to all Rutgers Business School alumni and friends to support the people and causes they care about. It only takes 20 minutes, and you can update your documents later if your plans change.

Seventy percent of adults in the U.S. do not have a will. Creating a will is oftentimes perceived as complicated, time-consuming, and expensive. That is why co-founders and co-CEOs Patrick Schmitt and Jenny Xia Spradling set out to provide a simple, intuitive, and efficient way of creating wills. Over 2,400 non-profits have partnered with FreeWill so far, and more than $14.2 billion has been committed to non-profits.

Regardless of estate size, having a will is important because it ensures your wishes are known. With a valid will or trust, you (not the government) choose who receives your property, name guardians for your children, provide for your pets, and more.

"Including Rutgers in your estate plans creates a lasting legacy—helping fuel ground-breaking research, maintain key academic programs, and empower future generations of students," said Executive Director Bryan Nemeth, Estate and Gift Planning, Rutgers University Foundation.
