As part of Rutgers Business School’s efforts to promote lifelong learning, all Rutgers University alumni may be eligible for scholarship and tuition reduction opportunities in the rSBI program.

How to Apply

Admission into the rSBI program is at the departmental level. Once a student is vetted and admitted by the department, the student can pursue any course, concentration, or 1-credit short course offered by that department.   For each successfully completed course, students can earn a program-issued course completion form, and over time, the student can “stack” courses toward a non-degree certificate in designated concentration areas.  The term ‘stackable’ means that students can build credentials at their own discretion and pace and have no commitment to take courses beyond their choices.

Below is the list of concentrations and courses offered by this academic department.

1. Application Fee (non-refundable) of $70

Applicants to the rSBI program must submit an application to every department in which they plan to take courses. However, applicants will only be charged a single $70 application fee, regardless of the number of departments applied to. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Do not send cash. This can also be paid online via a credit card.

The application fee is waived for all military and veteran applicants. If you fall into this category, please e-mail Tishawn Hatchett at tishawnb@business.rutgers.edu PRIOR to submitting your application and send her a copy of your DD 214 form or a copy of your military ID card. Do NOT include your social security number when e-mailing the form. Please block it out prior to sending.

2. Official Transcripts

To expedite the review process, applicants should upload unofficial transcripts to the online application or via email to the admission office. Upon being accepted and committing to the program, applicants must mail in an official transcript for each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.

For Rutgers graduates, please note that even though you are applying to Rutgers as alumni, you still need to contact the Registrar's office and request your official transcript be mailed to our office upon admission to the program.

Applicants holding international transcripts do not need to have their transcripts evaluated unless advised by Rutgers Business School. For more information on this, or if you are a domestic applicant holding international transcripts, please refer to our international instructions noted below.

3. Submit your current resume

This can be done through the online application.

4. Essay

Please provide a 1-2 page essay explaining your interest in the rSBI program, the academic department or departments you would like to take classes in, your academic and/or professional background, and how you believe the rSBI program will advance your goals.

5. GMAT/GRE Test Results (Optional)

GMAT/GRE scores are NOT required for the rSBI program and are optional.  Applicants wishing to upload test scores can do so in the admissions portal. Students who do not have a test score to include should select “None” under the “Test Type” drop-down list in the portal.

6. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), IELTS, or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)

You must submit one of the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic tests if English is not the official language in your country. Applicants from countries with more than one official language, including English, (Pakistan, India, Hong Kong, etc.) are not exempt from taking the exam. This requirement can be waived for applicants who have obtained an undergraduate or graduate degree in the U.S. or another English-only speaking country (England, Australia, etc.). This requirement can also be waived if you have three (3) or more years of full-time work experience in the United States.

  1. TOEFL Code: B355
  2. IELTS: Please contact IELTS and have your score sent to our office (address listed below).
  3. PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language proficiency test designed to measure reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, as they are used in an academic setting. Rutgers Business School requires a minimum score of 68 on PTE Academic.

7. Letters of Recommendation (Optional)

Letters of recommendation are not required of all rSBI program applicants, but may be requested based on the status of the applicant and the criteria of the academic department(s) applied to.

8. International Applicants

Additional requirements apply to international applicants. F1 visa are not granted for this non-degree program.
