Rutgers Business School Newark welcomes students to apply from a wide range of backgrounds, with varying levels of prior academic, professional, or military experience. Below are the eligibility criteria for students applying for transfer from another 2 or 4 year college or university. If you are concerned that your prior academic experience may currently leave you unqualified for admission into our program, please see the recommendations below the criteria for how to improve your candidacy.
Path to RBS Bachelor’s degree transferring from a 4-year college:
- Minimum GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Completion of at least 15 credits, and no more than 90 credits
- Preference for students transferring from an AACSB-accredited institution
Path to RBS Bachelor’s degree transferring from a 2-year college:
- Completion of an AA or AS degree with 60-65 transferable credits and a recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher*
- Completion of all major eligibility courses: English Composition I and II, Intro to Financial Accounting, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Statistics.
Coursework Strongly Recommended Prior to Admission from a 2-year college:**
Coursework equivalent to:
- 21:640:119 Applied Calculus or 21:640:135 Calculus I
- 29:630:301 Introduction to Marketing
*The minimum acceptable cumulative GPA to be considered for admission is 2.8 or higher
**Students entering an RBS online program who have not completed the recommended courses should be aware that Rutgers may not offer these courses in an online format. Permission is required to take said courses at an off-site institution.
Tips to Boost Your Admissions Eligibility for Rutgers Business School-Newark
Earn an Associate Degree. Completing an associate degree—particularly in business administration or a related field—can provide a strong academic foundation and demonstrate readiness for upper-division business coursework. Students who perform well in a structured associate program often become competitive candidates for transfer admission.
Complete Additional Coursework to Strengthen Your Academic Record. You may wish to take additional college-level courses to improve your academic profile, particularly in quantitative and analytical areas such as mathematics, economics, statistics, or accounting. Strong performance in these courses can enhance a future application.
Satisfy Prerequisite Requirements at a New Jersey Community College or an Approved Online Provider. Rutgers Business School–Newark maintains articulation agreements with New Jersey community colleges and with Campus.edu, an approved online course provider, that provides easy to follow course transfer guides. Through these partnerships, you may complete prerequisite business and general education courses that align with Rutgers transfer requirements while earning transferable credits.
